Hi Experts

We have OT CS 21.4, XECM and also recently installed Intelligent Viewing. We have a requirement to for outlook email which is stored as .msg to be converted into PDF. Can you please let me the options that we have for this functionality to be implemented.

most clients will use something like Blazon, as part of the Content Server Renditions solution. There is also an OT Cloud equivalent if you want to go that way as well.

Thanks Greg. I think we need to go via content server rendition solution. Can you please shed some more light on how we can use it for our requirement or if you can point to any documentation or existing forum discussion, that would great as well.

once you have the Renditions module installed, you set up the Source and Destination folders for each Rendition activity you need, then you just plug in a Rendition Engine - e.g. Blazon - to read from the Source folder and write to the Destination folder and then CS will push content to the Source folder and import from the Destination folder.

Thanks again Greg for details. We just found out that we don't have license to rendition engine. Is there a way to achieve this requirement using Intelligent Viewer? As far as I know, Intelligent viewer has replaced Blazon & Brava and it offers all the functionalities offered by Blazon & Brava.

IV does the viewing part not the PDF generation, if you have a licence for Renditions, you can use your own rendition engine solution to generate the PDFs and put them in the right folder if Blazon is not a good fit for you.

There are also some cloud based solutions, if appropriate, which would work in a similar way, for example OT's https://developer.opentext.com/resources/documentation/14a7dba4-c80f-440c-be04-3d6b8c0b53d1/3b4488399eaca30c0f54772d91d89b39/page/1 seems to do PDF and OCR.

Hi Greg

IV viewer also has the option to publish to PDF. We uploaded a .msg file into a workspace. Opened this file via IV and there is an option to publish to PDF. This converted the .msg into a pdf and also the attachments within .msg were also added into same PDF and created a new version of the same document. This is great. :)

Now we want to automate this process. Any .msg file which comes to workspace need to converted to pdf. Any ideas how to do it? Do we have an IV api that can do or can we configure some workflow service?

@CRHR I suspect you will find that the licensing terms of Intelligent Viewing do not permit you to use the APIs directly.

Sure, IV might give you a "publish to PDF" option in the UI, but I would never assume that this means the APIs are permitted for public use - and which is why (AFAIK) the APIs aren't publicly documented.

If you're looking to do bulk or API driven conversion of content to PDF format, likelihood is you'll require Blazon or whatever may be the current alternate.

I would recommend you speak with your OpenText AE about your needs here to ensure you remain compliant with licensing terms.

Alternately, you could build your own solution using OScript (again provided you are licensed for the CSIDE / SDK) but you'd need to have something performing the PDF conversion - again brining you back to a licensing question or using an Open Source alternate.
