OpenText's first ever hackathon was a success! Thanks to all of the partners, judges, participants and supporters for their efforts.

Why did we choose healthcare? Post pandemic we felt like developing solutions that addressed the unique challenges in healthcare would be a fun way for developers to flex their unique skills and pair it with a cause many of us are passionate about. Here's the breakdown on how it went:

Gaps in healthcare still exist and the need for better solutions to bridge those gaps is critical. Today, more than half of the world’s population lives one to two hours away from a doctor. The pandemic taught us that telehealth can be a great option. It allows patients and doctors to maintain routine contact and, therefore, good health—but only if the right tools are available. The challenge faced by health providers is how to incorporate new technologies that enable doctors and patients to have real conversations, supported by a simple experience.

At OpenText we believe that we have the services, solutions and technology to build solutions for Healthcare - whether its from patient experience, doctor portals, in clinic solutions or AI predictions.

Out of the 67 submissions, we saw some interesting solutions that breathed new life into a sector that has cumbersome systems that would make a practitioners life better. We had 5 core challenges to address a few of the issues plaguing technology in healthcare and the solutions submitted by participants blew us away. From embedding accessibility health checks in an application to anonymizing PHI/PII data, full solutions catered to how a small/medium clinic operates, the solutions were impressive and innovative.

We'd like to thank everyone who participated in this hackathon for their effort and time! Your participation made our first ever Hackathon a success and we hope you all walked away feeling empowered to continue doing the work you've started!
