Add custom menu item to Folders & Documents in SmartUI

This has been solved in classic UI. I have added a new menu item for Folders & Documents which when selected will take the user to a custom URL/Request Handler (inside of Content Server).

I am trying to do expose the same menu item in the smart UI. I understand that clicking the link will take the user out of the smart UI and into the classic UI, that is ok. I just need to option exposed in the menu.

Any recommendations on how this can be done?
