How to write an OScript that hooks into the Create or AddVersion event

I will need to use content server SDK to create my customization. How to write an OScript that hooks into the Create or AddVersion event.

The script checks the file name format using a regular expression.

If the format is invalid, the script can block the upload and return an error message.

both of these events support Node Callbacks so you can simply create a new node callback that will do the checks you want - there is a RegEx package too - and then return the appropriate value and error message etc.

Have you got the CS IDE SDK and done the training as IIRC Callbacks are covered in the course ?

Also think about other ways that content can be added to a system as an error message to a user via the Classic / Smart UI is one thing, but if the content is added via eLink or REST / WebServices which could also be running under a scheduler etc how will your response, in the error condition, be passed back and managed by the requesting system in those situations.

Kai - not sure if you're aware, but Content Server (current versions) contain an admin feature "Storage Filter Rules". Found under the admin pages→Storage Provider Settings→Configure Filter Rules.

This provides some level of ability to filter out content based on basic rules.

I don't think it supports regular expressions - but you might want to look there.

If not, then I'd expect that the filtering mechanism implements a subsystem to allow extending. If so, you might want to use that to add your own rule type to match on "filename contains regex ?".

As Greg says, you could do this via NodeCallBacks - but I wonder if the above gives you other benefits/options

the docs provided with the SDK cover the basics of the language, there is an older version which did contain a simple "hello world" like module. I'd find another person in your firm who has done some OScript before as its different from Java, C# etc.

The training course is a great way to start your journey in a managed way, I'd recommend that with some mentoring to help you achieve this.
