Custom Search Page - How To?

Not sure if this is the right place for this posting but here goes:I would like to create a simplified search page for a group of users who consistently do that same type of search (a combination attribute search). Basically, I need to hide some of the category/attribute complexity that you get in the advanced search page (LL9) and simply show a page which has a predetermined set of attributes that the user can specify. I was originally thinking that a live report would do the job but I want the search results page as the output (mostly for the summaries). Is there a way of doing this?Thanksdavid

Mouse over the Group Name and get the data ID for the group (i.e.'17183')Go into the Admin pages, choose "Browse the System Volume" then the PersonalSearch Templates folder. You should see all the saved templates, includingthe one that you just saved. Click the function button for your savedtemplate and choose "General." In the name field, delete the existing nameand enter your data ID (ie 17183) that you looked up. Thanks, a great idea and one that will find its way into my bag of tricks. Sadly, this isn't quite what I'm looking for (I misled you a bit with the comment about the user group performing the same search). This group of users could be performing one of several searches and what I'm hoping to provide them with is a set of search pages. I envision a set of web pages each of which has a couple of fields that represent the attributes for that specific search. I will probably need about 10 to 15 of these pages to satisfy the user community in question.When I was first heard about forms I thought this could be the answer - I would generate an HTML page that laid out the attributes I wished to search against and when the page was submitted, it would come back with the search results page as normal. Sadly, this is not the intention of forms but I'm wondering if there is another way of doing roughly the same thing?Thoughts?david

In Livelink 9.1 you will be able to define multiple search templates, so that will do what you want.

For one of our customers I created the possibility to do something similar, although less advanced.

The global idea behind is:

- I added and extra option to the URL that passes the name of the search template.

- I changed the implementation of the search, that in case of my specific parameter it looked for a search template with that name.

- The search template still has to be in the Personal Search templates folder.

- The new search template was made accessible via the menu with the standard Livelink functionality for that.

I selected the requested category and then started stripping the generated HTML-page. I changed some colors, tables etc and placed the page in the top-folder of the specifiedsearch-area.This worked fine but I wanted more. The next attempt I copied the sourceof the generated HTML-page and placed it in a hidden layer in the specified search-are using a customview.html. Dear Jeff,I just want to confirm the following -When you are referring to dataID for the Group in question are you making a reference to the Group ID that you get from Users and Groups menu and therefore ID would appear just after DocumentDrillDownForm and willbe in single qoutes or are you referring to the NodeID?...Please clearify.Regards,Edward Dudetsky

Hello Jeff, David and All eLInk gurusI have tried Jeff's method of asigning GroupID to a template instead of Group name and I am not convinced that it works as specified by Jeff.Once I logged in as one of the Users from the chosen Group (let's say TestGroup1 ) that was assigned TestTempate1 I could not see that the TestTemplate1 was the default template now used for testUser1 who is a member of TestGroup1.Can anyone help me on this/ give further instructions?Many thanks,
