Yes, in 9.6.0 a new set of functions (JavaObject ) wouldallow you to do some of that. See the release notes for the 9.6.0 SDK.

Thank you for the answer Rolf.We have an in house developed Web Service. Is it possible to invoke this from an OScript? Or should we use any other technique from Livelink to invoke this?/Peter

I'm assuming you mean SOAP request/replies when you'rereferring to a web service?

It really depends on what you wantto do:

1. If you plan to integrate the web service at a deepsystem level (e.g. you're trying to get a function to be called fromwithin the processing of Livelink, return data and then store the data inLivelink's database), then I would recommend coding a web service inOscript, using the XML libraries in there. It's not ideal, but for simpleweb services it will probably work ok.
2. If you plan to augment datawithin the user interface only, you should consider integrating therequest/reply within Javascript using one of the AJAX libraries out there.Scriptaculous seems to be a good one to choose. Not strictly SOAP, but youcould probably get by...
3. If you plan to integrate workflow datawith some other applications to complete a process, I can recommend theXML Worfklow InterChange module (XMLWFIC), which would allow you totransform (using XSL) the native XML format into a SOAP request/reply to aservice. You can also start a LL workflow (and add data) using XMLWFIC,but I can't remember whether that would be possible as a SOAP request aswell.

There are probably a couple more, including thepossibilities that JavaObject opens up (e.g. similar to 1, except that itmay make sense to wrap an existing SOAP client library to minimise theamount of custom coding you would need to do inside Oscript).

Also, as you're probably aware the LL API is available as a set of webservices.

If you can enumerate the desired use case in moredetail, I can perhaps be more specific?

This integration is made at a database level using OScript and the CAPI API.The application which handles the registration numbers is going to be changed and the database API will be removed and replaced by a Web Service interface instead. So I think it is case 1 that fits best (because there is no user interaction when the new registration number is retrieved)./Peter

Hi Peter,

As far as I know there is actually no pure Oscript implementation of a webservice consumer, meaning "invoke a webservice using soap over http". The xml workflow interchange uses an external dropin to do that. If I were you, I'd try to create a simple xmlwfic workflow step which would invoke the webservice, and trace the invocation in the builder to see how I could do the same call from OScript using xmlwfic integrated functions.

Peter:Sounds interesting - I think if the calls are not complex, then rolling your own inside Oscript is an option you could consider.Just bear in mind that the implementation of "Socket" doesn't necessarily deal with data > 10kb per request or reply. It seems that the undocumented HLAPIServer is an option to use in stead of Socket, which can deal with larger amounts of data.By the way, I meant "prototype", not "scriptaculous" - the latter is a great graphical enhancement for javascript and draws on the AJAX implementation of prototype, but prototype is the foundational ajax driver if you like.Regards,Rolf.
