Applying Catagories From one instance to Another.....

We have about 45 catagories attached on a Livelink instance with 2M objects.Now we are moving data from one instance to another and need to keep catagories attached along with attributes values as it is through Oscript.Can anybody tell me about the approach how to maintain catagories for moving data.Many thanks in advance

Category Definition objects what you create and apply are in dtree with subtype=131 and usually kept at the categories volume.Your first step is to create these objects in the target system.You can use xml export/import or if you prefer to use to move the 'dat' file from your source system to target that would work also although xml export/import should be the cleanest.Then for each actual object in the source system you need to create a map something like defid -1234 in source system is defid=5678 in target system some kind of lookup,or if you can export in chunks you can use xmlexport of source system say a particular folder and objects down with category info using oscript.Then before applying it on target system you need to manipulate the interim xml export file and replace the defid's in that to corresponding files and do a corresponding xml import.Naturally if you have livelink OI you can create files using names than ID's and this process becomes much easier.Why don't you clone the system why the migration?

Hello Appu,Thanks for response.We are migrating data from 9.1 to 9.7 by recreating all objects (except WFs) through OScript and managed well.Only part we are facing issues is with applying catagories to newly created Objects in 9.7 which are corresponding to 9.1.So we want to want to create same catagories and apply them to 9.7 objects with attributes values populated for 9.1 through OScript or any other way except optional module like IO.Please do advice.
