Search Service

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble running a bulk load through the web services. I'm positioning folders inside custom nodes (derived from a folder). Problem is when performing a search through the SearchService I don't get any results back because the data hasn't been indexed, so when I the program tries to create it I get a "Object is already created error".

¿Is there another way to search the database o modify the query to search the attributes (and categories) of the objects that have been just created?

Hi Carlos,

Are you simply trying to verify the creation was successful? What is the purpose of searching for the item immediately after creating it.

Aside from being indexed, the node should be fully functional once created.

It's a batch process that check's the existence of a folder to create a document inside. I'm trying to avoid checking up the whole folder structure by searching for a folder with specific category values. If that folder exists it'll create the document inside, if it doesn't it'll create it. Problem is when it was created in the last n seconds by a preceeding document. In that case the folder won't be returned as a result of the search and and error is returned while trying to create the folder.

For that kind of fastness and speed search cannot be relied.

Search goes thru at least 3 different processes Extraction,DCS & Updation which at best you could expect

To be available is about 3 mins. Depends on backlogs et al.

Why could you not use a crawler such as ListNodes or listnodebypage to do your stuff?

Or you could do something of a trick not 100 % foolproof.

Suppose you want to create a folder called “My Folder” in a parent say 12345.If you try to create a folder

And if the folder does not exist it gets created and the new node is returned. Now if you wanted really to check the

Existence before creation you could try that and look for the error string returned. If it says that

“Node by that name exists” not sure of the exact error message then it is as good as pre-checking it.

Several gotcha’s I can think of is a)Node name uniqueness is enforced based on case sensistivity of database

b)if you want a folder and I have created a document called “My Folder” livelink enforces uniqueness of name

based on name and not subtype.

If you have OI installed this kind of batching can be also made very easily.

Hi Carlos,

The Enterprise Library Web Services offer such functionality within thecreateItemForPath method (https://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledge/piroot/elws/v100201/elws-pgd/en/html/meth-ifelbielservice-createitemforpath.htm): it creates a document within a folder hierarchie. Existing folders are used, non-exiting are transparently created first.

Hi, Are Enterprise Web Services different from ContentWebServices? I supose you've got to license ELWS to use these services.¿Do they run in a different war (web application)?¿Are they compatible with the Content web services (Use of the same token)?

I don't know if this would work because appart from creating the folders I'm adding categories to them. So I would have to add these categories after the file has been created (without knowing if it was created or not by the createItemFromPath() method).

ELS is a separate compatible web service. I’m more of a CWS resource, but I know they DO work in tandem.

I still don’t see why you have to search for a folder that you just created. The creation response should give you all the info you need. And searching for folders that you DID NOT just create shouldn’t be an issue using the SearchService.

Why not just attempt the folder creation and “handle” the error response to determine if the folder/object already exists?

Enterprise Library Web Services are another set of Web Services for accessing content in Content Server and Records Management. They are highly integrated with Archive Server to offer optimized access to the file content. Though Archive Server is not mandatory when using ELWS.

To use Enterprise Library Web Services you need to install the EL module into Content Server and the Metadata Services into RCS.

ELWS and CWS can be used together, seehttps://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledge/piroot/elws/v100201/elws-pgd/en/html/servmetadatrm.htm

The mentionedcreateItemForPath method takes a list of folder objects. If these objects have categories assigned, they are set automatically when the folders are created. This saves the number of server-roundtrips and improves client performance.
