Clarifying Oracle Client support

Metastorm BPM support for Oracle Client versions has historically been slow to update.  We had found specific driver versions that worked for us and specified their use in our Supported Environments documents.  Most recently this was the Oracle 10.1.2.0.2 ODBC and OLEDB drivers referenced in the earlier v7.5 and v7.6 documents.

However we have made great strides in updating our Oracle support in the face of a number of problems that presented themselves to us.  The first issue was a memory leak that Oracle resolved in:

10G R2 - 10.2.0.4.0 Patch 21 (10.2.0.4 P21)  32-Bit Patch: 8541774

11G R1 - 11.1.0.7 Patch 12 (11.1.0.7 P12) 32-Bit Patch: 8508245

Metastorm then carried out the necessary regression testing to support these Oracle Client versions against both v7.5.1.x and v7.6.2.x.  Any customers that where experiencing unexplained Metastorm BPM Engine crashes or hangs when running against Oracle we encouraged to move to these updated client versions.

With the release of v7.6.3 (7.6 SR3) support for the Oracle 11G client has again been updated to a newer patch version:

11G R1 - 11.1.0.7 Patch 22 (11.1.0.7 P22) 32-Bit patch set: 9166858

Note that Patch 22 is a roll-up patch of many other earlier fixes.

It must be added at this point that overall in our testing we have found the Oracle 11G Clients to be more reliable and better performing that the Oracle 10G R2 equivalents when tested with the Metastorm Process Engine.

The above applies to version 7.x of Metastorm BPM.  The story is slightly different with version 9.0 and 9.0.1 of Metastorm BPM.

Presently support is provided for the following Oracle Client version:

10G R2 10.2.0.4

11G R1 11.1.0.7 (w/ the 11.1.0.7.20 ODAC update)

I hope this clarifies the present position of Oracle Support from the Metastorm BPM Product Set.

  • Hello,

Are there any plans to certify Metastorm BPM v 9.0.1 on Oracle 11G R2 for 32bit and 64bit OS?  If yes, is there an anticipated release date?

    Regards,

    Jason

  • Hi Jason,

We plan to support Oracle 11GR2 with Metastorm BPM Version 9.0 SR2.  This is targeted for the end of August.

  • Hi Paul, et al,

Are you aware of any known memory leak issues with 9.1 and Oracle 11.1.0.7 64 bit?  Thanks!

    Kelly

  • Hi Kelly,

No, there are no current memory leaks that we are aware of when using 11.1.0.7 with the appropriate patches in place...

    Regards,

  • Hy Paul

We have a customer which the following constallation:

    MBPM Version:7.6.2.0

    Oracle Client Version: 10.2.0.1.0

We have huge performance problems. For Example: I have a process with a start action and then a automated rule action which takes the folder from the first stage to the second stage.

This automted action takes over 10minutes to work.

We also have a lot of problems whith flagged actions. Sometimes the flags will not raised or will raised after hours. ;(

Is it possible that this issues also belongs to your descripted Oracle driver problem?

What I do not understand is, that the webinterface "feels" normal in its behaviour. The forms are in a good performance.

But the engine seems to hang or to be extremly slow.

    thanks for your help ;)
