DSM - This Region encountered a rendering error

Hi,

I successfully set up DSM including the VgnSampleSite. While trying to create my own site which partially uses cloned Templates, Layouts and Regions from the SampleSite, I always get the error message 'This Region encountered a rendering error' when trying to preview the site. After clicking ''Refresh Region' the Region loads without any problems and I can see it's contents.

Obviously I don't want to refresh every region on it's own when I do any changes to my site and I'm sure this isn't expected behaviour. Any idea why this might happen?

Note: My site is running on another preview server (Tomcat) than the VgnSampleSite (where everything works fine).

    1. Which version of WEM are you using?
    2. What were the steps that you used to create the CDA that was deployed to Tomcat?
    3. Is the browser reporting an errors?
    4. Have you found anything related to this in the DSM tomcat logs?

    I think I remember this one. Did you set the site in vgnexttemplating - in config console, I think it's cluster nodes setting. You have to put the site name in there.

    I think I remember this one. Did you set the site in vgnexttemplating - in config console, I think it's cluster nodes setting. You have to put the site name in there.

    1. I am using WEM 16.
    2. I followed the steps documented at the Dynamic Site and Portal Configuration Guide. Configuration is confirmed at vgnTas.jsp and vgnTest.jsp.
    3. The browser console is not showing any errors.
    4. I've scanned the Tomcat logs several times already, but couldn't find errors related to that problem.

    You were right, the value wasn't there. I've edited the cluster.nodes value in mgmt -> Resources -> Resource Type - Generic -> VgnExtTemplating Resource -> Generic Resource -> DATA  -> Config Value and appended the URL of my new site separated through a comma.  It did not solve my problem, but I'm not sure if this is the right way to do this. The value now looks like this:

    cluster.nodes=http\://10.1.70.96\:27110/vgn-innovate, http\://10.1.70.96\:8080/vgn-innovate

    By using the Tomcat Manager App, I confirmed that /vgn-innovate is the right context path.

    But I don't know what to do with the information I gathered. Any ideas?

    Hi,

    I was finally able to figure out a solution. By changing the Rendering Type of the region to AJAX I'm able to display them without a problem.

    Sadly, I still don't understand why it doesn't work with the option Direct. Is this a known bug with WEM16?

    Hi Jan,

     

    Have you checked your DSM app server logs and DSM logs after you encounter this error (with the direct option)?  There should be stack traces in those files that show the error.
