The OpenText Cloud Developer Tools Extension Pack for Microsoft Visual Studio Code is now available!

The extension pack is a collection of extensions that support creating and deploying various IM (Information Management) configuration models directly from within Microsoft Visual Studio Code.

Several of the benefits of using the OpenText Cloud Developer tools for VS Code include:

  • Easily create new apps on top of IM APIs or extend out-of-the-box applications
  • GUI components incorporating no-code & low-code modelers
  • Fully supported and routinely updated by OpenText
  • Comprehensive tutorial for getting started
  • Easily report issues to get help from the OpenText Developer Community

To get you started, OpenText has also provided a comprehensive tutorial for developers who wish to learn how to efficiently build applications that utilize the OpenText Information Management (IM) APIs.

The tutorial walks you through how to build a React-based Contract Approval application. This application consumes the IM APIs from the OpenText API Cloud and provides an end-to-end business scenario for reviewing, approving, and storing contract documents. It covers the topics of connecting to a developer organization in the API Cloud, creating an IM application project with its different models, and deploying this application to the different IM APIs through the integrated ALM (Application Lifecycle Management) deployment functionality.

The APIs and underlying services included in the application include:

The tutorial can be accessed following the steps above only this time selecting Tutorial from the list of options in the HELP AND FEEDBACK section.

While following the User Guide or Tutorial, if you find any room for improvement or need to report an issue, please select the options available in the HELP AND FEEDBACK section in the primary side bar.

  • Is it useful for eDOCS DM?

The OpenText Cloud Developer extensions for VS Code are in context of OpenText's public cloud developer experience. This does not include eDOCS DM.

  • What about Content Server on-prem? Or is this set of tools only useful for OT Core? I work mostly in CSIDE and Eclipse. Is OT planning on switching to VS Code for CSIDE support?

Hi @HFCDev, the VS Code extensions pack (aka OpenText Thrust Studio) is 100% intended for our public cloud offering. That is, it aims to support extending Core Apps (such as Core Content, Core Case, etc.) and using the OpenText Cloud Platform APIs (aka OpenText Thrust APIs).

The short answer to your first question is that we do not support non-public-cloud products, so this means Content Server on-prem is indeed not supported or even a target for support later on.

Regarding your second question, the answer is similar, in the sense that we have purposely chosen VS Code as the go to development environment for our public cloud APIs. There are currently no concrete plans to add support for other IDEs.

Overall, if you have to use Content Server on-prem, this is not the right choice. However, if you are looking to support content management use cases, you can still consider Core Content and the OpenText Thrust (public cloud) APIs. In that case, of course, you could use this solution.

I hope this answers your questions.
